Customer portals and external applications for laboratories
Your customers want to submit requests, see where their samples are and download results without emailing your staff. A portal handles that, and it can be connected to the LIMS you already use so your team keeps working from one set of data.

Situations we often hear about
- Requests arrive by email and PDF form, and your staff re-enter them.
- Customers call or email to ask for status updates.
- Results and certificates are sent manually, one email at a time.
- Your LIMS vendor’s portal module doesn’t fit how you work with customers.
What we deliver
- Online requests
- Customers submit testing requests from your own test catalog, with sample details, turnaround and instructions.
- Request review
- Your staff review each request before work starts; accepting it creates the order in your LIMS.
- Order and sample tracking
- Customers see status as work progresses, without calling the lab.
- Results and certificates
- Released results and certificates of analysis, available to download.
- Messages in context
- Questions attached to the order they are about, instead of scattered across inboxes.
- Your brand
- Your laboratory’s name, colors and contact details throughout.
How we approach it
The portal is a front-end; the LIMS stays the system of record. We define exactly what the portal reads and writes, how customer-facing tests map to LIMS analyses, and when results become visible to customers: only after they are approved.
Each customer organization sees only its own data, enforced on the server rather than hidden in the interface. The same approach works for other external-facing applications, such as partner portals, sampling-site apps or supplier submissions.
See it in a working application
The Laboratory Customer Portal demonstration shows this kind of software end to end. Customers submit testing requests from your catalog, follow their samples through the lab and download released results and certificates. Staff review every request, and accepting one creates the work order in the LIMS.
A demonstration and starting point, not a finished or validated product.
Chapters and screenshotsQuestions we often hear
Can the portal connect to our existing LIMS?
That is the usual design. The portal exchanges requests, orders, status and released results with the LIMS through whichever interface it supports. Our demonstration portal shows the pattern with a demo integration; connecting to your LIMS is part of the project.
Can it handle more than customer requests?
Yes. The same foundations work for partner portals, field sampling applications, supplier submissions and other external-facing tools.
How is each customer’s data kept separate?
Each customer organization is a separate tenant. Access rules are enforced on the server, not just in the interface, and actions are recorded in an audit trail.
